National flag of Taiwan
Official flag of Taiwan. Also commonly known as the 'Blue Sky, White Sun' flag, it is internationally known as a symbol of Taiwan. The flag is also associated with the government of the Republic of China and its establishing party, the Kuomintang (KMT), and is sometimes a source of domestic controversy due to the latter's history. Despite this, it is generally used by most Taiwanese people abroad as an identifying symbol. The flag can also be found on all domestic national government buildings, embassies abroad, and those who wish to see greater international recognition for Taiwan, especially since Taiwanese teams cannot compete under this flag (or even under the name 'Taiwan') in most international events.

As a result, a large vertical space was claimed. The Baltics team then agreed to give the space beneath the Lithuanian (and later Estonian) portions to Taiwan. As a symbol of friendship, the Lithuanian penguin is given Taiwan's famous boba tea to drink.

Flag of the Taiwan Independence Movement
The Taiwan Independence flag is a flag associated with Taiwanese nationalism and freedom, or the desire to for Taiwanese people to be independent from China. This flag has three vertical bands of green, white and green, and depicts Taiwan and surrounding islands in the center. Taiwanese independence movements have existed since the 1680s, where under Qing rule the phrase 'Every three years an uprising, every five years a rebellion' became a common phrase. Though many observers point out that Taiwan is already an independent and sovereign country, this flag is also commonly used to rally those who are critical of the actions of the Kuomintang (KMT), especially under the era of martial law. The flag also represents movements for greater international recognition for Taiwan and the ending of threats to Taiwan's sovereignity. A common anthem of the Taiwanese independence movement is 'Taiwan the Formosa', particularly the first stanza.
